Coherent Inc. has introduced a high-power 640-nm red diode laser module for use in flow cytometry and drug discovery. The single-emitter-based turnkey Cube 640-100 produces 100 mW of continuous-wave output in a 1-mm-diameter beam with M2 <1.5. The company says that the laser delivers a higher scan rate and a better signal-to-noise ratio than HeNe models. Maximum output wavelength is 644 nm, ensuring high transmission through the laser emission bandpass filters used in cytometry instruments and good blocking by commonly used detector filters. USB, RS-232 and analog interfaces facilitate system integration.
