Submarine-grade Pump Laser Modules
NOZAY, France, Sept. 29, 2009 – 3S Photonics has unveiled its next-generation 1996 SGP Series 980-nm submarine-grade pump laser modules.

Providing 600 mW of ex-fiber optical power, the modules are to be used in submarine optical networking applications for the deployment of next-generation 10- and 40-G optical amplifiers into the submerged repeaters which are distributed along the submarine intercontinental cables.

Optimized chip structures enable reduction of internal losses down to as low as 0.55 to 0.60 cm-1 and maintain high external efficiencies. The design of the pump laser modules delivers low junction temperatures and injection current densities.

Construction is based on a double-lens coupling platform. Typical expected end of life power drift is less than 2% over a 25-year lifetime.
