ROCKLAND, Mass., Nov. 11, 2009 – Prior Scientific Inc. has introduced a focus-only control system for modern microscopes. The ES10ZE is suitable for applications involving extended focus or Z-stacking, providing a compact low-cost system for automating a microscope-focusing mechanism.

PriorScientific-FocusContro.jpgThe controller has a clear display that shows the current position at all times. Separate controls are provided for rapid movement up or down and for changing the speed. A focus knob enables manual fine focusing.

The system is compatible with leading imaging software packages and can be controlled from most imaging platforms, rendering extended focus images easy to generate. It can be used on many types of microscopes, including inverted, upright compound and stereo. For demanding applications, it also supports encoders and delivers precision and accuracy.

Measuring 160 × 125 × 60 mm, the controller has both an RS-232 and a USB interface. It operates at 1600 µm/s. Resolution is programmable to 10 nm, with factory default set at 100 nm. Minimum resolution with the optional encoder is 50 nm.
