High-Speed Camera Family
SAN DIEGO, Dec. 24, 2009 – Photron Inc. has unveiled a new option that enhances two select models from its Fastcam SA high-speed camera family. The Range Version (RV) hardware can extend the normal operating temperature range of the Fastcam SA5 and SA2 cameras.

Photron_VersionHardware.jpgThe new sealed case design renders the camera models impervious to dirt, dust and sand. The RV option includes two serviceable external fans that direct cooling air over the sealed camera body, keeping the operating temperature stable and making the cameras suitable for high-speed imaging in harsh environments. Featuring an optional DC battery pack and a remote keypad with a built-in LCD viewfinder, the new Range Version high-speed camera systems are configured for any outdoor or field application.

The SA5 camera operates at up to 7500 fps with 1024 × 1000-pixel resolution and delivers more than 1 million fps at reduced resolution. The stand-alone one-piece imaging system has a 12-bit monochrome, 36-bit RGB color sensor that features 20-µm square pixels for good dynamic range and high color fidelity. The SA5 is available with the dust-free sealed Range Version option for in-field use and/or for rugged environments.

The Fastcam SA2 is a 12-bit, 4-megapixel CMOS camera that delivers up to 1000 fps at full 2k × 2k-pixel resolution and 1080 high-definition television resolution at up to 2000 fps, with additional speeds and resolutions available, depending upon customer needs. This system is available with either a positive-lock (PL) lens or a B4 lens mount, and it provides good color fidelity, good light sensitivity and crisp image quality, making it popular for slow-motion imaging in sports and entertainment broadcasting. Easy to operate and/or integrate into new or existing systems, the Range Version configuration also is also suitable for aerospace, automotive testing, air bag development and testing, and ballistics, missile and combustion testing applications.
