The Cobolt Mambo compact diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) laser from Cobolt AB is now available with up to 100 mW of power. Operating at 594 nm, the laser is suitable for fluorescence analysis applications including confocal microscopy and flow cytometry. Built into a hermetically sealed compact package using the proprietary HTCure technology, it features low noise of <0.3% rms, a typical narrow spectral line width of <30 MHz and a high beam quality of M2 <1.1. It is supplied with an ultracompact controller that can be remotely accessed for operation and monitoring of the laser system via digital and analog interfaces.

GLOSSARY
analog
A physical variable that is proportionally similar to another variable over a specified range. An analog recording contains data that is similar to the source.

Denoting the use of binary notation; i.e., the representation of data by bits (1 or 0).
diode-pumped solid-state laser
A compact solid-state laser, referred to as DPSSL, created when a laser diode pumps light into either the sides or end of gain crystal. Depending on where the pumping occurs, high-quality and stable output beams can be achieved with end-pumped lasers, and high-power output beams can be realized as with side-pumped lasers. Common in green laser pointers, DPSSLs are also used for a variety of materials processing applications, such as cutting and precision marking, and in optogenetics.
flow cytometry
A method of measuring the characteristics of microscopic particles, usually cells, as they flow in a fluid stream through a beam of light. Particles may be stained with fluorescent dye and the fluorescence detected via laser illumination.
noise
The unwanted and unpredictable fluctuations that distort a received signal and hence tend to obscure the desired message. Noise disturbances, which may be generated in the devices of a communications system or which may enter the system from the outside, limit the range of the system and place requirements on the signal power necessary to ensure good reception.
