Evolution Array Spectrophotometer
Mar 2010

ORLANDO, Fla., March 10, 2010 – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has launched the state-of-the-art Evolution Array, a UV-Visible spectrophotometer driven by photodiode array technology that offers improvements in laboratory throughput. Designed for fast acquisition of full-spectrum UV-Visible data, it delivers high performance for rapid and accurate method development and sample analysis in quality assurance/control, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, materials science and educational laboratories.

Full-spectrum data is acquired in <1 s for routine data applications and can be acquired at nearly 50 points/s for advanced kinetics applications.

The system provides simultaneous detection of all wavelengths throughout the UV and visible regions, enabling a nearly instantaneous display of a full absorbance spectrum from 190 to 1100 nm. Full-spectrum analysis of every standard and sample allows users to create standard curves, plot 3-D graphical displays and examine samples at any wavelength at any time.

Featuring a mechanical shutter as its only moving part and a 10,000-h tungsten lamp, the device provides long uninterrupted operation. Automated cell changers and temperature control and solid sample accessories are available to facilitate system configuration according to specific laboratory requirements.

The device operates on proprietary Visioncollect software to facilitate efficient data collection, analysis and reporting. From routine quantitative analysis to 3-D spectrum kinetics, the software provides a spectrum radar visualization tool that allows users to view the entire active spectrum at a glance without interrupting work in the main display window. Additional advanced software options are available for life sciences, film thickness and color applications. For regulated laboratories, the software is designed to enable data handling in accordance with 21 CFR Part 11 requirements.

tungsten lamp
An evacuated bulb containing a tungsten filament that is heated by passing an electric current through it. In domestic light bulbs the inside of the bulb is frosted to soften shadows. In projection lamps, the filament is very compact and enclosed in a clear pyrex bulb.
