JENA, Germany, March 31, 2010 — For spectral-selective temperature measurements in the mid-wavelength infrared, Jenoptik Laser, Optik, Systeme GmbH has launched the VarioTherm InSb camera. With a bandwidth of 2 to 5 µm, it covers a wide spectral range and is suited for measurements in R&D applications.

The integrated filter wheel enables customer-specific mounting of through-glass, on-glass, through-flame, on-flame or plastic filters. The camera is radiometrically calibrated for a temperature range from -40 to 2000 °C. The wide measurement subregions combined with good temperature resolution facilitate flexible measurements without the need for switching between measurement ranges.

Calibration data and measurement algorithms are stored in the camera, enabling direct output of measured temperature data without the need for a PC connection. The 640 × 512-pixel resolution of the latest generation Stirling cooled indium antimonide detector array shows small details of thermal structures, while the temperature resolution of better than 15 mK enables accurate detection of subtle temperature differences.

The use of customized filters enables reliable measurement on or through quartz glass, flames, polymers or plastics, and inside reactors or furnaces through fused quartz windows.
