SAN JOSE, Calif., June 24, 2010 — OptoElectronix Inc. has announced its LED-based plug-and-play ULE5000 LightDisc light engine that enables luminaire manufacturers to accelerate adoption of low-power solid-state lighting for commercial and consumer light fixtures. It delivers the same light output as a 90-W incandescent bulb at one-third the power and has a 50,000-h life. The 8-in. disk is suitable for bowl luminaries. The self-contained module has a fully integrated power supply for quick connection to light fixtures. It includes the LED, thermal management, optics and proprietary control circuitry. It is available in warm white or cool white light. Its integrated 120-VAC power supply means installing a LightDisc module in a light fixture is as simple as connecting two leads and the ground wire to the fixture. Light fixture manufacturers can easily replace the traditional ballast, sockets and bulbs with just one part. The module is UL-recognized under File E323412 under the requirements of UL8750 and UL1598. Features include dimming, which works with standard Triac dimmers, and power factor correction, as well as continuous internal temperature monitoring and control. Proprietary Dynamic Dimming Compensation Control circuitry eliminates dimmer flicker. The light engine measures 203.2 mm wide by 35.6 mm high, making it suitable for applications such as ceiling fans, drum lights, large cylinder lighting, semiflush lighting, rectangular wall sconces and bollard lighting. It can be designed into existing fixtures or used as the platform for efficient new designs, with no transformers required. The ULE5000 is the first in the LightDisc family of lighting products based on proprietary Universal Light Engine technology. The first models in the series are the ULE5360A-T-15 with a 3200 K color temperature (warm white) and the ULE5361A-T-15 with a 6200 K color temperature (cool white). Both feature a 120° beam angle. The lens is manufactured with UL94-5VA optical-quality plastic, providing good flammability protection. Providing up to 1530 lm of cool white light and up to 1300 lm of warm white light output using only 28 W of power, the module includes a chain-pull pass-through.
