WINOOSKI Vt., Sept. 8, 2010 — BioTek Instruments Inc. has released the hybrid multimode microplate reader, a monochromator-based instrument for ultraviolet/visible absorbance, top and bottom fluorescence, and luminescence assays. It can be easily upgraded to a hybrid reader with the addition of a filter-based optical module that includes its own light source and a dichroic-based wavelength selection system. This independent filter module with dichroic mirrors supports fluorescence polarization, time-resolved fluorescence, filtered luminescence, time-resolved Förster resonance energy transfer and bioluminescence resonance energy transfer assays with ultrahigh sensitivity. A dual reagent injection system is available to automate inject/read assays such as ion channels or flash luminescence. The monochromator optics uses a third-generation quadruple grating design that enables luminescence detection and working at any fluorescence intensity The system includes the proprietary Gen5 data analysis software for advanced reader control, data analysis, graphing, exporting and reporting. The reader is compatible with the company’s Take3 multivolume plate that measures up to sixteen 2-µl samples, two BioCells or a standard cuvette for fast and simple multivolume, multisample analysis. It also is useful for fast and accurate DNA/RNA quantification at 260 nm. Read methods include end-point, kinetic, spectral scanning and well-area scanning. Microplate types are 1- to 384-well plates. The light source is a xenon flashlamp. Wavelength range is from 230 to 999 nm, in 1-nm increments.
