CHELMSFORD, England, Sept. 9, 2010 — Laser Components UK Ltd.’s range of fiber-coupled high-power laser diodes has been enhanced with the addition of the K41 and CS405 series. At 405 nm, output power from the fiber varies from 20 to 100mW. Optimum optical and electronic performance is achieved through the unique alignment of the 3- to 60-µm fibers.

In addition to good coupling efficiency, the fiber connection features long-term stability and optimal beam performance. At the customer’s request, the company can also equip the fiber end with an FC, ST or SMA optical connector.

The K41 series emits up to 100 mW from a 60-µm multimode fiber with a numerical aperture of 0.22 and up to 30 mW from a 3-µm single-mode fiber with a numerical aperture of 0.12.

The CS405 series achieves even better coupling efficiency, emitting 60 mW from a 4.5-µm fiber with a numerical aperture of 0.06.

All components are supplied in a robust metal housing. Depending on the design, the laser diodes are also available with a thermoelectric cooler and/or a thermistor. They are suited for use in medical technology, materials processing, illumination, printing, biochemical analyses and scientific applications.

A solid-state semiconducting structure (basically one of the bolometers) that changes electrical resistance with temperature. Materially, some kind of ceramic composition is used. A thermistor has much higher electrical resistance than metallic bolometers and hence requires much higher voltages to become useful.
