REGENSBURG, Germany, Sept. 16, 2010 — Osram Opto Semiconductors GmbH’s Ceramos RGB (red, green, blue) multiLEDs for use in Dolby’s LED-backlit PRM 4200 professional reference monitor support high technical standards for the monitor, which is designed for professional content creation applications and targeted at production and postproduction of movies and TV shows. The monitor uses 1536 Ceramos RGB LEDs, which offer a wide color gamut, good color accuracy, a high dynamic range and true deep blacks. The Dolby reference monitor is a 42-in. LED backlit LCD tailored for professional applications that require accurate and true color reproduction, increased dynamic range, deep black levels and good gray-scale tracking. The combination of the multichip LEDs and Dolby’s dual-modulation and calibration technologies enables the display to meet these demanding requirements. Conventional monitors with cold cathode fluorescent lamp backlighting have a limited color gamut, and they display deep blacks as dark gray, according to the company. The multiLEDs deliver the high performance required by the professional content creation industry. The red, green and blue chips are positioned so that the color mix has the same appearance when observed from a wide range of angles. LEDs’ ceramic package measures only 0.9 mm high and 3 × 4.5 mm, making them suitable for flat backlights, and the ceramic package material renders them stable, with lifetimes in excess of 50,000 h, with negligible degradation in brightness or drift in colors.
