TUCSON, Ariz., Nov. 8, 2010 — OxyTech Srl and Lambda Research Corp. have announced the release of LiteStar 4D, a software program for interior and exterior lighting design. It has been completely redesigned from the ground up with ease of use in mind for both the occasional and the expert user. Three important things were priorities in this redesign. First is the capability to interactively create scenes internally using LiteStar’s computer-aided design (CAD) geometry generator. Second is the capability to import CAD geometry from the leading CAD vendors and, third, the ability to access vendor luminaire data directly through the import of IES and Eulumdat data or to download from partner WebCatalogs directly available from their websites or from Oxytech’s website. New features include an easy-to-use graphical user interface to create CAD geometry employing standard Windows drag-and-drop capabilities, icons, toolbars and menus; and an all-inclusive data format, OXL, the natural next step of evolution of the Eulumdat and IES file formats. This format combines not only the luminaire photometry but the 3-D CAD geometry and full scene rendering information in one complete set of data. This new data specification replaces the company’s previous FDB format. Another function is the wide use of the drag-and-drop feature at all levels, including data acquisition via the Internet through WebCatalogs. This format is easy to use and works exclusively with simple drag-and-drop mouse operation. The software offers the option to import 2-D (DXF format) and 3-D (3DS and OBJ formats) files directly into a working scene with simple drag-and-drop mouse operation. A new powerful calculation and ray-trace rendering engine based on the “photon mapping” method calculates a fully rendered scene in just seconds for good results, and a new photometric data manager plots IES and Eulumdat files.
