EERBEEK, Netherlands, Nov. 24, 2010 — Avantes BV has launched a new line of high-sensitivity spectrometers, the AvaSpec SensLine. The high-performance spectrometers are designed for use in demanding applications. Features include high quantum efficiency, back-thinned CCD detectors and a proprietary ultralow-stray light optical bench. The initial products released in this line are the AvaSpec-ULS2048×16-USB2 and AvaSpec-ULS2048×64-USB2. The ULS2048×16-USB2 features a high-speed back-thinned CCD detector with high quantum efficiency for measurements in the UV to NIR range (200 to 1160nm). The effective detector height with 16 pixels of 14 µm is 224 µm, and the pixels are vertically binned. Compared to the company’s AvaSpec-ULS2048×14-USB2 back-thinned CCD spectrometer, it supports much faster integration times (minimum 0.91 ms), has improved dark noise, better etaloning, better antiblooming and a better dynamic range. The new AvaSpec-ULS2048×64-USB2 has an even higher detector height with 64 pixels of 14µm, vertically binned to an effective detector height of 900µm, resulting in four times higher sensitivity. It supports fast 1.75-ms integration times and has similar dark noise, reduced etaloning, antiblooming and dynamic range specifications as the 2048×16 instrument. Common applications are fluorescence spectroscopy and low-light-level detection applications.
