Aurea Technology has unveiled its SPD_A_M2 family of ultralow-noise,
high-quantum-efficiency near-infrared (900 to 1700 nm) single-photon detectors.
Their Geiger-mode InGaAs avalanche photodiode and thermoelectric cooler ensure high
detection efficiency, a low and stable dark count, high speed and low jitter, with
a performance superior to 5 x 10–6 per nanosecond. They exhibit good sensitivity
in high-level detection, making them more effective than photomultipliers and microchannel
plate photomultipliers, according to the company. Quantum efficiency is adjustable
from 5% up to 25%. The RoHS-compliant devices provide plug-and-play connection to
PCs via a USB interface, allowing users to easily adjust detection efficiency and
to tune gate width and delay. They are supplied with a graphical user interface.
