Exfo Inc. has added tools to its PSO-200 optical modulation analyzer, providing flexibility to manufacturers looking to adapt their testing protocols to future compliance procedures and allowing performance of phase-modulated transmitters such as dual-polarization quadrature phase-shift keying to be established independently of the receiver. The software release provides network equipment and transceiver manufacturers with tools for testing and troubleshooting during production of 40- and 100-Gb/s transmitters. Added are detailed error vector magnitude (EVM) and bit-error-rate (BER) analysis, mask tests and support of homodyne characterization. The time-resolved EVM analysis allows fast and precise identification of transmitter impairments. The BER and symbol-error-rate computation in a gearbox allows users to provide the patterns and sequences employed in their transmitter to get precise mapping of errors.
