Featuring laser line extraction for 3-D scanning, Matrox Imaging’s GatorEye GigE Vision industrial cameras have an IP67 rating and are designed for operation in harsh environments. For triangulation-based 3-D digitizing applications, the cameras extract the laser line in an image to subpixel accuracy and produce the corresponding positional depth/height array. Only the resulting array is transmitted, which lightens the load on the Gigabit Ethernet link and personal computer. The computer can then focus on other tasks, including 3-D measurement and analysis. The cameras feature a sturdy, dustproof and washable casing and are available in six sensor configurations. For connectivity to external devices, they include an optocoupled trigger input, strobe output, eight general-purpose input/outputs and a controlled current source for driving LED illuminators directly.

triangulation
A method of measuring distance by recording a single scene from two points of perspective. Surveying instruments can be used; in autofocus systems, rangefinders and three-dimensional imaging systems, a light source and detector carry out the dual measurements.
