BOZEMAN, Mont., July 1, 2011 — ILX Lightwave Corp. has introduced the FPM-8220 fiber optic power meter and the FMH-8715, FMH-87107 and FMH-8705 fiber optic measurement heads.

The power meter replaces the FPM-8210 version and offers improved accuracy, interchangeable fiber optic measurement heads, and USB 2.0 and IEEE-488.2 general-purpose interface bus interfaces for automated control and remote operation in research and development or manufacturing environments, making data gathering quick and accurate. The intuitive, easy-to-use instrument makes repeatable measurements with ultralow polarization-dependent response for testing of fiber optic components and systems.

The new instrument’s remote commands are compatible with the FPM-8210, so customers can replace them with the FPM-8220s.

LabView drivers for the FPM-8220 are available for download from the ILX website.

The FMH-8700 series fiber optic measurement heads make precise measurements up to 30 dBm over a wavelength range of 800 to 1650 nm. Two new integrating sphere-based measurement heads measure power at 90 dB with ±0.02-dB linearity for connectorized, bare fiber and bare ferrule measurements. For lower power measurements, a detector-only measurement head covers a range from −75 to 1.5 dBm.

Bare fiber measurements are facilitated by the proprietary and patented BF-820 bare fiber holder for easy fiber positioning and repeatable measurements with any of the measurement heads.

The power metersare calibrated to NIST transfer standards in the company’s calibration laboratory.
