Coherent Inc. has released a 10-W continuous-wave green (532 nm) laser for pumping Ti:sapphire oscillators and amplifiers. The high-power Verdi G10 uses proprietary next-generation optically pumped semiconductor laser technology to deliver high performance and good reliability in a compact size. The lasers do not have the “green noise” or thermal lensing issues of multimode lasers based on diode-pumped solid-state technology, according to the company. As a result, they exhibit noise of <0.02% rms across a frequency spectrum from 10 Hz to 100 MHz. The lack of thermal lensing means that the output power can be smoothly adjusted from 10% to 100% of the maximum value, with no effect on beam quality or the beam pointing stability of <2 µrad/°C.
