Olympus Europa Holding GmbH has unveiled the FV10-ASW 3.0 version of its software for the FluoView FV1000 confocal laser scanning microscopes and Fluoview FV1000MPE multiphoton excitation systems. By incorporating high-dynamic-range imaging, a greater dynamic range of fluorescence between the lightest and darkest areas of a sample is obtained. Signal-to-noise ratios are minimized, enabling capture of clear, highly resolved images. Additional functionalities, such as partial stitching with multiarea time-lapse imaging and channel unmixing for the FluoView FV1000MPE systems, provide flexibility for obtaining high-quality laser scanning microscope images. The new software is compatible with Microsoft Windows 7. It allows users to select specific areas of the whole sample and to stitch them together easily.

fluorescence
The emission of light or other electromagnetic radiation of longer wavelengths by a substance as a result of the absorption of some other radiation of shorter wavelengths, provided the emission continues only as long as the stimulus producing it is maintained. In other words, fluorescence is the luminescence that persists for less than about 10-8 s after excitation.
