COMPACT Diode Laser System

MAINZ, Germany, Aug. 11, 2011 — Dilas Industrial Laser Systems, a division of Dilas Diodenlaser GmbH, has introduced a diode laser system based on a module with increased beam quality and an optical output power of 30 W continuous wave.

The module is integrated into the company’s established COMPACT platform, the fiber-coupled turnkey diode laser system. Because of the beam parameter product of ±11 mm mrad (100-µm fiber core diameter, numerical aperture of 0.22), this direct diode laser system can accommodate new applications in materials processing because of the small focal diameters that can be achieved.

The combination of proprietary standardized processing heads, such as fixed optics with an integrated pyrometer and CCD camera or galvo scanner heads, enables applications such as microplastics welding and selective microsoldering for medical device manufacturing.

Miniaturization of the products requires production technologies that connect the smallest solder joints or weld microfluidic devices. Focus diameters of <180 µm with the company’s fixed optics or <400 µm when using a galvo scanner are possible. The standard package is supplied with a fiber cable and a focusing head.

The easy-to-integrate system features conduction-cooled diode laser modules and consists of a compact 19-in. rack-mountable chassis, metal-armored fiber and imaging optics with protection glass. It can be combined with proprietary processing heads that offer camera and pyrometer options and enable closed-loop operation of the system in predefined temperature ranges for automotive applications and medical device manufacturing.

The diode laser system is available with an optional fiber-input galvo scanner featuring a field of operation in which the laser spot can be freely addressed.
