Digital Lightwave Inc. has developed a centralized dense wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) test and monitoring system that enables communications service providers to monitor, test and resolve network issues for new and existing optical networks. Network Access Agent IV can test multiple dense WDM fibers and embedded OC-48 signals, including optical power measurements, signal-to-noise ratio, and graphical spectrum and SONET overhead analysis. It identifies existing and potential problems, centralizes and remotely manages networks, and monitors the networks proactively. The system has a scalable architecture that accommodates bandwidth growth and can be integrated into existing network management systems with standards-based interfaces. The company says the system is an efficient, cost-effective way to analyze and detect network outages.
