Edinburgh Instruments Ltd. has launched the MTL-5, a miniature transversely excited atmosphere CO2 benchtop laser that produces mega-watt peak powers at 10.6 μm. The instrument is an upgrade of the original MTL-3 and is a compact control laser that offers enhanced functionality and built-in acoustic noise suppression. It is supplied with a separate 19-in. rack power supply that enables users to optimize space without compromising their experiments. Self-diagnostic, the MTL-5 has built-in fail-safe mechanisms designed to support system integrity. An optional wavelength selection unit with precision grating control enables users to step-tune easily between wavelengths. Pulse width is typically 50 ns, with a manual grating tuning option and high repetition rates. The interconnection between the power supply and the head has a warranted lifetime.
