Optical Surfaces Ltd. is offering planoconvex and planoconcave toroidal mirrors for pinpoint focusing in spectroscopic and imaging applications. The mirrors have two different radii whose axes are oriented at 90° to each other. They have advantages in applications where a beam must be focused and folded. Rather than requiring both a spherical and a plane mirror for this purpose, the mirrors combine both functions in one element, enabling increased energy throughput and more compact designs. Toroidal mirrors correct for the astigmatism that results when a spherical mirror is used off-axis. The company produces custom toroidal mirrors in materials including Zerodur, BK7 and fused silica, with typical surface accuracy of better than λ/5 (dependent upon size and radius) and surface quality of 20-10 scratch-dig.
