Assembly of optical devices with UV-curable resin is a common procedure. In the data and telecom industries, devices must be aligned precisely, and the subsequent gluing and curing should not affect their positioning. The Nano-Glue systems from nanosystec GmbH are partly or fully automated production stations for demanding alignment and assembly procedures. The linear axis produces 20-nm resolution, and angular rotation resolution is below 0.001°, providing maximum coupling efficiency. Long travel ranges facilitate loading and unloading. Typical devices to be aligned are planar waveguides (splitters, modulators) with arrays of lenses, fibers, diode lasers or photodetectors. A machine vision system automates loading and alignment and supports the automated resin dispensation as well as the shuttle of the UV guides for the curing procedure.
