Hamamatsu Corp. has unveiled a pair of devices that provide light generation and detection in optical data link applications at 650 nm. The S7141 photo IC and L7140 red LED have outputs of 10 VDC and power from 0.5 to +7 VDC, an operating temperature range of -0 to +60 °C, and a data transfer speed of DC to 50 Mb/s. The S7141 has an output rise and fall time of less than 7 ns and a receiving level that ranges from -17.5 to 5 dBm. The L7140 has a 20-nm spectral half-width and a light output of >-7 dBm.
