SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 26, 2012 — Spectra-Physics, a Newport Corp. brand, has launched the Excelsior One continuous-wave laser series. The ultraviolet, visible and near-infrared devices integrate the laser head and controller into a single, compact package. Available in free-space and fiber-coupled configurations, the plug-and-play lasers include 11 wavelengths and deliver up to 500 mW of average power. They use only one supply voltage for all models and are suitable for flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, DNA sequencing and other bioinstrumentation applications. Featuring modularity and a single footprint across a broad selection of wavelengths, power levels and configurations, they are used in a wide range of fluorescence-based bioinstrumentation applications. The product line includes direct-diode and diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) technology in a consistent footprint with a common electronics interface. The new platform is based on Spectra-Physics’ It’s In the Box design, where the laser cavity and control electronics are integrated into a single housing, eliminating unnecessary cables and external controllers. All lasers deliver TEM00 mode beam quality and low optical noise for a high signal-to-noise ratio. The DPSS models are available in single- or multilongitudinal-mode versions. Easy to configure, the direct-diode models include high-speed modulation (transistor-transistor-logic and analog) plus an RS-232 interface.
