BARRINGTON, N.J., July 19, 2012 — Edmund Optics has announced the addition of downloadable engineering files with integration specifications for its most popular lines of TechSpec imaging optics. The files provide instant access to key specifications for building and optimizing imaging systems, which include optical curves, critical decision-making data used as a guide in selecting the best lens for an application.

Integration specifications are available for the following TechSpec lenses: compact fixed-focal-length, Silver series telecentric, compact telecentric, Gold series telecentric and high-resolution 5-megapixel telecentric. The specifications include graphical curves for modulation transfer function (lens contrast vs. resolution), depth of field (contrast vs. working distance), relative illumination (brightness from the center to the corner of the image) and distortion (vs. image height.) A detailed schematic drawing, complete with measured dimensions of each lens, is provided, as well as tables that include focal length, field-of-view range, working distance and aperture (f/#).

TechSpec compact fixed-focal-length lenses include integration specifications for each of the seven focal length models, including the four curves, the drawing with measurements and other detailed specifications, presented in a complete and understandable format.

This is important for OEM integration — with all of the detailed performance information available for comparison, the company says that it is almost as if the user has the lens in front of him/her when designing a system.

The company is ready to assist with imaging lens selection for specific applications.

For the special case of an imaging system with lens axis perpindicular to the image plane, focused at a range of 25 ft, and with definition acceptable for objects from 20 to 40 ft; the depth of field extends from 5 feet in front of, to 15 feet behind, the object plane focused on.
