MINNEAPOLIS, March 4, 2013 — Sick has launched the W27 MultiPac photoelectric proximity sensor for overhead detection of bundled objects. It uses two redundant receiver arrays to identify difficult targets such as bundled bottles in the packaging and food and beverage industries.

The sensor provides overhead counting and indexing to make sure that bundles are both created and transported properly. The two independent receiver arrays ensure continuous detection when diffused light is misdirected from bundled surfaces. A single high-intensity visible red-emitting LED aids in alignment and provides reliable detection despite dirt and dust buildup.

Enclosed in a compact housing, the W27 MultiPac can detect shiny, glossy or dark targets within its foreground without signal interruptions. A higher angle of incidence provides increased mounting flexibility, allowing the detection of film-wrapped pallets and other targets. With the use of a simple teach button, the sensing range of the W27 MultiPac can be adjusted up to 500 mm.
