FREIBURG, Germany, March 25, 2013 — Z-Laser Optoelektronik GmbH has developed ZFSM, a fiber-coupled laser system suitable for the projection accuracy required in industrial machine vision and medical applications. ZFSM yields small, perfectly round spots for point projection optics and thinner, more homogeneous lines with line generator optics (e.g., 8 μm at 30 mm working distance, 1/e² and ±5% line homogeneity). The beam profile is M² ~ 1.05, and the pointing stability is <3 μrad/°C. The system supports laser diodes with red, blue, green and IR up to ~50 mW (in the projection). Using an optical fiber, ZFSM separates the optics from the laser source with an electronic harness. The optics can be located up to several meters away from the laser source. For applications with high ambient temperatures — e.g., the measurement of red-hot steel — the lifetime of the laser diode is significantly increased. By using standard fiber connectors, the projection optics can be changed within a running system. The system is offered as an OEM solution with a bare electronics module, a fixed-fiber and attached-optics module, or as a housed laser source with driver electronics and standard fiber connection. Users can insert their own fiber application or use ZFSM fiber and optics accessories. Multiple laser sources (RGB) can be controlled individually and coupled in one or more fibers.
