SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 28, 2013 — Molecular Devices has released its SpectraMax i3 multimode detection platform, a stand-alone reader that can be combined with various proprietary modules for added capabilities including time-resolved fluorescence, fluorescence polarization and assay screening.

The platform’s base system features an integrated optical system enabling top and bottom reads for 6- to 384-well microplates and three broad detection modes: luminescence, absorbance and fluorescence. The patented user-exchangeable cartridge design expands the system’s detection capability, enabling fluorescence and bright-field cellular imaging.

Data from the SpectraMax i3 system is captured and analyzed using the proprietary SoftMax Pro Software.

The natural log of the ratio of absorbed intensity over the total intensity which gives a constant value assuming a stable volume as well as energy. In optical physics the absorbance may be defined as the absorption cross section multiplied by the absorbing material length.
