SOUTHAMPTON, England, May 9, 2013 — SPI Lasers’ new high-power multikilowatt fiber lasers extend the range of the redPOWER CW series from 1 to 3 kW and are designed for the industrial macromaterials processing market. The redPOWER K1 1000 is available as a high-beam-quality single-mode 1-kW laser source or as a multimode laser. This model, along with the redPOWER K1 2000 and redPOWER K1 3000, can be configured with output process fibers from 50 to 600 μm in diameter. The lasers’ pluggable beam combiner offers a plug-and-play capability for both the individual laser input source units and the output process fiber, eliminating the need for a transport fiber and enabling beam quality selection. The power-control system provides stability and control, high-modulation bandwidth and hardened backreflection tolerance, making the lasers suited for processing of both bright metals and steel materials. Rapid replacement of both process fiber and laser source units reduces machine downtime without the need for specialized field service equipment. The lasers can be integrated with machine and factory-floor control systems with a range of control interface options. An integrated programmable waveform generator can be controlled by internal cutting or welding applications software or synchronized with external hardware controllers.
