OBERKOCHEN, Germany, May 23, 2013 — Carl Zeiss has introduced a FalconEye optical sensor that can be used on stepping, articulating probe holders and is suitable for complex measuring and quality assurance tasks in the automotive industry.

Besides boreholes, parts to be assessed include edges, threaded bolts, finished vehicles with accessories and new car parts. The sensor system is used in combination with the proprietary Carmet II horizontal-arm measuring machine.

On the articulating probe holder, only a few positions need to be calibrated, while all angular settings are available for the application. Alignment of the laser line relative to the part is enabled by a manual rotary axis that can be positioned in three angular settings.

The FalconEye system has been integrated into the proprietary Caligo software package.
