MAINZ, Germany, June 26, 2013 — Suitable for medical applications, Dilas’ fiber-coupled, single emitter module emits 10-W CW power at 976 nm from a single 200-µm broad-area emitter.

The multimode diode laser is available in a high-heat-load package and has an operating current of <14 A and compliance voltage of <2.5 V. The device is environmentally sealed and includes an integrated photodiode, thermistor and thermoelectric cooler. The detachable fiber can be controlled via the fiber interlock.

The module is also available in 689- and 752-nm wavelengths with output powers of 400 mW and 1.5 W, respectively, for photodynamic therapy applications. Custom configurations, power levels and additional wavelengths are also available.

A solid-state semiconducting structure (basically one of the bolometers) that changes electrical resistance with temperature. Materially, some kind of ceramic composition is used. A thermistor has much higher electrical resistance than metallic bolometers and hence requires much higher voltages to become useful.
