WALLA WALLA, Wash., July 26, 2013 — Symetix’s VeriSym SE optical inspection system verifies softgels continuously, either in-line after a single encapsulator, on a continuous drying line, or off-line in a batch mode during product manufacturing or packaging for applications in nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals.
The system inspects up to 200,000 softgels per hour to detect color, symmetry, size, and shape, and removes foreign softgels and defects such as spots, color variations, air bubbles, and misshapen softgels. The system can also inspect coated tablets, detecting and removing foreign, broken, and stained tablets, as well as tablets with missing coating.
The process reduces the risk of contamination by minimizing human contact with the product. Softgels are fed either automatically or manually into the system’s infeed hopper, which meters the product onto the infeed shaker. A top-mounted color camera inspects each object, while proprietary image-processing technology analyzes the images, comparing each object to previously defined accept/reject standards. When a defective or unconfirmed object is identified, a close-coupled high-speed air ejector system removes it from the product stream.
The modular system is 2.7 m long and 0.9 m wide, including the infeed hopper and reject manifold. It is FDA 21 CFR part 11 compliant with secure and encrypted logs, secure passcode management, parameter histograms and guided changeover.
