  • Optical Polishing Pitch
Aug 2013
Meller Optics Inc.Request Info
PROVIDENCE, R.I., Aug. 12, 2013 — Meller Optics Inc.’s Gugolz optical polishing pitch is available in five hardness grades for blocking, lapping and polishing of hard to soft optics.

Made from all-natural wood resin to help prevent contamination of the polishing media and optics, the pitch carries abrasives through slicing, melting and pouring onto a lap.

With melting points from 52 to 87 ºC, the pitch is suitable for carrying aluminum and cerium oxide, and diamond slurries without having to screen, filter or mix additives. All hardness grades are compatible and consistent, enabling users to achieve their own grade of hardness.

cerium oxide
A polishing material that has a quicker polishing action than rouge (ferric oxide) and that is cleaner to handle.
1. The process of wearing down the surface of a softer material by rubbing it under pressure against the surface of a harder material that has been formed in the shape opposite to that desired on the softer material. Loose, wet abrasive generally is used between the two parts, but sometimes the abrasive is embedded in the lap in a rigid form (see diamond cutting tool). 2. See fiber lapping.
