MAINZ, Germany, Oct. 3, 2013 — Dilas has introduced its fiber-coupled, multibar diode laser module for applications such as cladding, brazing, hardening and heat-conduction welding. With its fiber interface, it can be combined with many commercially available processing optics.

This microchannel-cooled unit can deliver up to 6-kW output at a wavelength mix of 9xx nm through a 1000-µm, 0.22-numerical-aperture fiber. The 19-in., rack-mountable module is designed to meet the requirements for OEM customers and systems integrators.

Designed as a beam source with neither an integrated power supply nor a cooling unit, it allows systems integrators to achieve deep integration into their machines. The module is equipped with internal electronic sensors that monitor parameters such as humidity and temperature operating current to ensure safe operation; it has a pilot beam for positioning purposes.

cladding
The low-refractive-index material that surrounds the core of an optical fiber to contain core light while protecting against surface contaminant scattering. In all-glass fibers, the cladding is glass. In plastic-clad silica fibers, the plastic cladding also may serve as the coating.
