BELFAST, Northern Ireland, Nov. 11, 2013 — The Holospec multitrack imaging spectrograph by Andor Technology is suitable for various applications including weak nanostructure photoluminescence; micro-Raman mapping, including tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy; spectrally assisted microfluidics; real-time medical diagnosis; standoff chemical detection; and online process control.

Based on a high-density volume phase holographic grating, the device offers up to seven times better collection power than a traditional ?-m Czerny-Turner spectrograph, the company says, enabling better low-light detection capability when combined with proprietary detectors. The spectrograph’s compact size renders it suitable for both field and laboratory use.

tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy
A spectroscopic technique that combines the high chemical specificity of Raman scattering and signal sensitivity provided by surface plasmon resonance enhancement, with the nanoscale spatial resolution of scanning probe microscopy (SPM). Supported by a sharp metallized-SPM tip, tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) enables label-free detection of surface components in multicomponent samples with ultrahigh spatial resolution, making it suitable for studying nanomaterials.
