BEND, Ore., Feb. 25, 2014 — Tratech Fiberoptics Inc.’s HP2.5 high-power fiber optic connector is suitable for high-power fiber laser and diode pump applications.

The device splices a fiber to a beam-expanding end cap that is fused to the outer ferrule, resulting in an epoxyless, nonabsorbing termination. Mode stripping occurs inside the transparent ferrule, dumping residual pump power and providing protection against miscoupled or back-reflected light.

Featuring an end cap length of 1 to 15 mm and a clear aperture of 800 µm, the connector’s antireflection coating provides reflectance <0.25% from 850 to 1100 nm.

GLOSSARY
antireflection coating
A thin layer of material applied to a lens surface to reduce the amount of reflected energy. Ideally the index of refraction of that material should be equal to the square root of the product of the indices of the material on either side of the coating, while the ideal thickness for a single-layer coating is one-quarter of the wavelength at which reflectance is to be minimized.
