HARLEYSVILLE, Pa., Feb. 26, 2015 — Pittman Motors E30C and E30DPittman Motors has announced two new types of optical incremental encoders for precision motion-control applications for volume OEMs.

E30C and E30D optical incremental encoders operate at 5 V from -20 to +85 °C and weigh 5.6 grams.

The E30C has resolutions of 200, 250, 256, 400 or 500. It outputs two-channel quadrature signals that are transistor-transistor logic (TTL) compatible. Operating frequency is 40 kHz (200 to 500 counts per revolution).

The E30D has resolutions of 500, 512, 1000, 1024, 2000 or 2048 and offers an optional third-channel index output. Complementary outputs also are available. The operating frequency is 55 kHz (500 to 512 cpr), 110 kHz (1000 to 1024 cpr) or 220 kHz (2000 to 2048 cpr).

A device designed to measure linear or rotary motion by detection of the movement of markings on a transparent medium past a fixed point of light. The encoder has a moving code plate, a glass disc with positional or angular information -- generally bit information and -- simple geometric optics for readout.
