QUEBEC CITY, Dec. 21, 2015 — The FTBx-740C-DWC from Exfo Inc. is a high-resolution tunable optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) for troubleshooting dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) access links. The device is designed to test multiplexing and demultiplexing channels using the customer's wavelength in order to identify faulty links or deliver first-time-right deployments during construction. In contrast with the traditional light source and optical spectrum analysis approach that requires two technicians and synchronization, this single-ended OTDR test enables one technician to quickly respond to network failures. The device is tunable in the C-band and covers channel spacing of 100 GHz/50 GHz based on the ITU-T standard grid. The tunable laser also features a high dynamic range for improved performance, and the long reach needed to cover metro and long-haul applications.
