A line of silicon PIN photodiode sensors with integral preamplifiers for high-sensitivity and low-noise operation is available from Hamamatsu Corp. High-speed photodiode/preamplifiers in the S6468 series operate at wavelengths above 1000 nm and are suitable for applications in video transmission systems, fiber optic communications and computer optical disks. There are three models in the series, all of which are rated for low-noise operation. They are housed in three-pin TO-18 packages with an 0.8-mm active area.
