Advanced Energy UltraVolt HVA SeriesThe HVA series of DC-to-DC high voltage power supplies operates a precision filter/divider and linear HV switch to produce a high voltage amplifier (HVA). These modules provide a high-resolution, programmable, high voltage DC to full-scale waveform capability greater than 1 kHz output. This is optimized for bias applications while providing excellent line regulation, load regulation, dynamic response, and stability. It can both source and sink current.

Typical applications for this series include:

   •  Drivers for Pockels cells, laser, and electro-optic modulation

   •  Amplifiers for PZT devices, ion beam, and electron beam devices—such as mass spectrometry and electron microscopes, as well as electrostatic deflection/focusing

GLOSSARY
amplifier
A device that enlarges and strengthens a signal's output without significantly distorting its original waveshape. There are amplifiers for acoustical, optical and electronic signals.
Q-switch
A device used to rapidly change the Q of an optical resonator. It is used in the optical resonator of a laser to prevent lasing action until a high level of inversion (optical gain and energy storage) is achieved in the lasing medium. When the switch rapidly increases the Q of the cavity, a giant pulse is generated.
Pockels cell
A device containing an electro-optic crystal and using the Pockels effect. A voltage applied across the crystal generates birefringence, causing plane-polarized light propagating through the crystal to be resolved into two orthogonal vectors. The change in retardation between the two vectors (ellipticity) is proportional to the magnitude of the electrical field. A crossed polarizer analyzes the output beam, resulting in intensity modulation. Response time can be in picoseconds.
