Midwest Optical Systems Inc. has announced Festo’s eMotionButterflies, ultra-light flying objects using BN850 Near-IR Bandpass Filters to aid in autonomous flying with indoor GPS.

With the filters, active markers and 10 IR cameras, Festo has demonstrated how the use of an indoor GPS and IR cameras could be used as a guidance and monitoring system in factories. The BN850 blocks unwanted ambient light while only passing the signal from the LEDs to the cameras. The cameras can then transmit position data to a central master computer to coordinate the butterflies.
