lCO2Coherent Inc.'s Laser Group has released the Diamond Gi and Ki series CO2 lasers for cutting, converting, drilling, engraving, marking and welding. They were designed to process materials that have a higher absorption rate at 9.4 µm than at the standard 10.6-µm output, such as polyimide. The compact, sealed lasers also have the company's proprietary Brilliance integrated features for sharp spot size and high energy densities. The 100-W G-100i has a pulse rise-and-fall time of <80 µs and a peak power of 250 W. The K-125i and K-225i have pulse rise-and-fall times of <40 µs, with the latter 225-W model delivering a peak power of 650 W. The fast optical rise time and high peak power allow fast cutting and produce a small heat-affected zone. All three lasers feature an M2 of <1.3.
