Combining scanning spectroscopy and two-dimensional imaging, the Raman Imaging Microscope from Renishaw Inc. scans to a spatial resolution of 1 µm and a spectral resolution down to 0.2 cm21. The device employs a 25-mW laser to scan across the range from 200 to 4000 cm21, providing graphic output in the form of 2-D Raman images and 2- and 3-D spectral plots. Applications include research and quality inspection of semiconductors, carbon fibers and pharmaceuticals, and the study of polymer coatings.
