Designed for use in line-of-sight data links, bar-code readers, laser radar and optical switching applications, the S6851 silicon PIN photodiode from Hamamatsu Corp. has a cutoff frequency of 70 MHz. Other features include a 2 3 10-mm active area, a spectral response curve from 320 to 1060 nm, dark current of 1.0 nA, peak sensitivity at 900 nm and photosensitivity at 860 nm of 0.65 A/W. Terminal capacitance is 35 pF, and maximum reverse voltage is 30 VDC. The device will operate in the temperature range from 240 to +80 °C.
