Applied Scintillation Technologies Ltd. has developed custom coatings that can be applied to standard silicon photodetectors. Spectrally shifted silicon devices display sensitivity to 150 nm. Laser profiling, UV spectroscopy, general UV analysis and detection, and spark analysis of metals are among its applications. Coated to respond in the IR, silicon detectors will display broad and specific band coverage to 1.6 µm. A long afterglow characteristic of the coatings enables the detection and image capture of extremely short pulses with a low-cost coated device.
