A scientific imaging camera with a thermoelectrically cooled configuration that adds versatility has been released by Spectral Instruments Inc. The 800 series allows any size scientific CCD to be read through one, two or four output ports simultaneously. A 16-bit digitizer provides readout speeds of 100 kHz to 1 MHz, or a 15-bit digitizer can be used at higher speeds. The camera's multistage thermoelectric cooler drops the CCD temperature to as low as 250 °C. Options include wire or fiber optic connections.
