Lambda Research Corp. has introduced a new version of TracePro, the optomechanical 3-D solid-modeling software for analyzing lighting and backlight displays. The RepTile function in the new version enables the design of an LCD backlight larger than 50 mm. RepTile uses a repetitive surface algorithm to create numerous conical bumps, dots, pyramids, brightness-enhancing films and Fresnels on a planar surface. This feature allows users to specify the shapes of the tiles and then to create a complicated model in reduced size.
