E*Core fiber from KVH Industries offers polarization-maintaining ability of >40 dBm and low sensitivity to stress and temperature. It is suitable for fiber splicing and for pigtailing to other optical components in applications where the state of light polarization must be preserved for the device to operate. An elliptically shaped core region within the fiber has a higher index than the surrounding cladding, creating the geometric birefringence necessary for light polarization. The fibers are made using silica materials and high-purity dopants.
